‘Oops!’ said Imamu. ‘I expect we will get into trouble for that... Let’s say it just fell apart, eh? Wear and tear. From the taste of it, it wasn’t a quality product.’

The twins looked at each other.

‘We really can’t tell lies. Especially to Mum and Dad,’ said Bobby.

‘Quite right,’ said their grandma. ‘We’ll just be honest and tell them I did it then. Ha, ha, ha! Now, apparently I need to tape down your tails so they don’t move about while you’re at this school place.’

Betty sighed. ‘Yes,’ she said. ‘We hate it. Not school, but tying down our tails. But we can’t control them, so they have to be kept still somehow. The gaffer tape is on the dressing table.’

Imamu picked up the tape and sneered at it, then looked affectionately at her two grandpups. ‘But isn’t it very uncomfortable?’ she asked.

‘To be honest, Grandma, yes it is,’ said Betty. ‘But there is no alternative.’ Betty held the end of her tail and pulled it tight around her tummy. ‘Ready,’ she said with a sigh, bracing herself.

‘Listen,’ said Imamu. ‘Let your tail go. Why not try a day at school without having your tails taped down? I don’t think anyone will notice. Just make sure you don’t go wagging them too frantically. A gentle swishing and you’ll get away with it, I’m sure.’
